Major Awards

Team of the Year – U14 Boys Green
Our U14 Boys Green Team earned the Team of the Year award after placing third at the U14 Regionals earlier this month. The team faced some tough losses along the way but finished strong with decisive wins in both their quarter-final and 3rd/4th playoff against much stronger competition. They consistently showed resilience, teamwork, and determination, leaving it all on the court every game. Their sportsmanship and respect for opponents were noted by many other associations, and the growth of each player was particularly evident in their final, come-from-behind victory over South Canterbury.

Coach of the Year – Randall Anderson
Randall Anderson has been an incredible asset to Basketball Mid Canterbury, coaching both the U19 Men’s Team and the U14 Boys Green Team this season. Beyond coaching his own teams, he has dedicated time to running Sunday open trainings for U14 players, assisted at trials, and helped other teams in need of support. Randall’s dedication, passion, and generosity have left a lasting impression on players, families, and fellow coaches. His commitment sets a high standard for young coaches in our community.

Player of the Year – Mackenzie Goodfellow
Mackenzie Goodfellow has been part of the Basketball Mid Canterbury community since Year 5 and continues to impress with her skill, leadership, and commitment. This season, she captained the U16 Girls Team, was a key player for the Junior Girls Ashcoll team (averaging around 30 points per game at tournaments), and contributed to the Senior Girls Team that qualified for Nationals. Beyond her on-court achievements, Mackenzie dedicates time to refereeing and coaching in our local competitions. Her coach, Linda, says:
"Mac is one of the best in this team. She consistently shows commitment, leads practices, scores reliably, and adapts to any position on court. Her confidence and teamwork made for a successful season."
Mackenzie’s dedication, leadership, and consistency make her a deserving recipient of Player of the Year.

McGrath Award – Andrew Shepherd
The McGrath Award recognises outstanding contribution, dedication, and service to Basketball Mid Canterbury over the season. This award celebrates someone who goes above and beyond to support our players, coaches, and the wider basketball community. Andrew Shepherd has shown exceptional commitment by stepping up as President of Mid Canterbury Basketball and serving as Head of Ashburton College Basketball, embodying the spirit and values of our association. His efforts have made a real difference to our community and are an inspiration to everyone involved in Mid Canterbury basketball.
