Yr 3&4 MINIBALL

About Miniball – Years 3 & 4

Miniball is a fun, skill-focused basketball program for young players in Year 3 and 4, designed to develop teamwork, ball-handling, and game sense in an age-appropriate environment.

All teams are registered through schools, which helps keep the competition structured and safe. If your school does not have a team or does not have enough players to form a team, please contact the competition organizer to discuss options.

Year 3 – 3x3 Miniball

  • Format: 3x3 games – Teams of 7–8 players split into smaller squads for games

  • Reason: The 3x3 format gives players more touches of the ball and more opportunities to make decisions on court, helping them develop fundamental skills and confidence at this introductory stage.

Year 4 – 4v4 Miniball

  • Format: 4v4 games – 30-minute rounds (2 x 13-minute halves + short halftime)

  • Reason: The 4v4 format introduces players to a more traditional team structure while still keeping the game small-sided, ensuring every player remains actively involved and continues to develop skills, teamwork, and understanding of the game.

Dates:

Skills and Drills: 15th & 22nd September

Games: 13th October - 8th December

Cost: $70 per player

Year 3 Miniball

  • Played Tuesday Nights in Term 4

Format: 3x3 Miniball – Teams of 7–8 players

Game Structure: Teams will split into 2 smaller squads on game nights and play two 12-minute half-court 3x3 games against another team, swapping after each game.

Focus: Fun, skill development, and teamwork. The 3x3 format gives players more touches of the ball and more opportunities to develop their skills.

Team Requirements:

  • Each team must have a coach and a manager.

    • In the past, finding coaches has been a challenge. We can support parents, caregivers, or senior students in these roles if they wish.

  • Coaches will also act as on-court guides, effectively “refereeing” the games in a supportive coaching role.

  • Teams should have 6–8 players registered.

This program is designed to make basketball fun and engaging for young players while encouraging teamwork and skill development.
