Basketball Mid-Canterbury aims to ensure all players and their supporters understand their expected behaviours while representing the province of Mid-Canterbury. Representing our region is an honour and a privilege and we ask that everyone involved understands and respects this.

Please read the form carefully and feel free to ask questions if there's anything you are unsure of.

Thank you and enjoy your season.

Terms and Conditions

Code of conduct and fair play for parents/caregivers and supporters

Basketball Mid-Canterbury expects that all parents/caregivers and supporters shall conduct themselves in a manner which brings credit to themselves, BBMC and the game.

They shall:

  • Remember why players participate in sport - it’s about enjoyment, the challenge, being part of a team, being with friends, and self-improvement.

  • Remember that winning is only part of the fun. Be a positive role model as well as encouraging your child to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat – teach them to be prepared to lose sometimes.

  • Cheer for your child’s team as well as applauding good plays/performance by both your child’s team and their opponents.

  • Respect all participating players and officials as you would respect your own children and friends.

  • Allow the coach, manager and officials to do their job, support without interfering. Help when asked by the coach, manager or officials.

  • Encourage your child to play within the rules and respect officials and coaches’ decisions.

  • Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using foul or abusive language or actions, and by not harassing players, coaches, officials or other spectators.

  • Remember that destructive criticism has no place in basketball and especially in junior basketball. It is very hurtful to the recipient and, ultimately, reflects very poorly on the team, Basketball Taranaki and the game.

  • Give positive comments that motivate and encourage continued effort.

  • Do not engage in any bullying activity or allow parents, coaches, other children, or spectators to engage in any type of bullying behaviour (this includes cyber/text bullying).

  • Thank coaches, officials and other volunteers who have helped my child to be part of the event or game they are participating in.

  • Be prepared to assist with bench duty as required by Basketball Taranaki in a positive manner that reflects well on yourself, the team you represent and

  • BBT.

  • Raise concerns respectfully and at an appropriate time with the Team Manager and/or Team Coach. If unresolved, or if appropriate, raise concerns with the General Manager of Basketball Taranaki.

By registering my child as a Member of Basketball Mid-Canterbury, I agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Thanks for filling in our Parent Code of Conduct form.
